Gone are the simple days of moving pictures and practical effects. These days, movies are more sophisticated, with computer-generated special effects and high-resolution images. However, each addition to a film or episode adds to the file size, which can make both downloading for at-home viewing and the process of creating the project more complicated than ever before.

The no-cost version of Allavsoft is one of the best free video converters for Mac available. It lets you download up to five files and convert and merge any video shorter than five minutes. Allavsoft works with plenty of formats including WMV, MP4, AVI, MKV, and MOV. 4K video is supported.
As with other video converters, the speed of the conversion will depend on the video quality you use and, when downloading from online for conversion, your available bandwidth. For example, we were able to download a nearly 1.5-hour movie from Youtube and convert it to 4K in under 5 minutes with a 140 Mbps down connection.
The free AVC application provides decent quality output and okay speeds. More than 150 preset profiles are available, along with some simple editing, disc burning, and video downloading features. This version supports over a dozen output formats including AVI, MOV, MP3, and MP4. Plus, 4K output is possible, which is rare for free software.
United States citizens who are currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate degree programs are eligible to apply. All applicants enrolled in U.S institutions must apply through their home campuses. Find the Fulbright Program Adviser on your campus. If you are an undergraduate student, you are eligible to apply in the fall of your senior year. If you are a graduate student, you are eligible as long as you will not have a PhD degree by the application deadline.
View the STH Details The STH curriculum lays out a challenging, engaging four-year path from student/learner to skilled technician to scientist/innovator, from the basics of lab techniques, scientific communication, and planning to the intricacies of scientific research and leadership. Students graduate from the program with exciting knowledge, honors recognition (and most students can satisfy requirements for honors in their major using their STH thesis), and years of lab experience already under their belts before they even start grad school.
View the UHP Details Unique Curriculum: An expansive interdisciplinary course focused on broad themes and taught by a six-person team of faculty and otherwise knowledgeable community members is created afresh each year for the combined class of first- and second-year students. Honors seminars (limited to 16 students) are taught to students of all years by diverse faculty on subjects related to their fields of expertise but not found among the usual department listings. Service learning is formally incorporated into the interdisciplinary curriculum as an annual joint project between UHP and Arrington Middle School 7th graders.
Housed in a beautiful old church on the southern edge of campus and led by a supportive and devoted team of faculty and staff, UHP provides an environment that is as familial as it is academic wherein students are encouraged to step out of their comfort zones, be steered by their intellectual curiosity, and develop the full diversity of their interests and talents. Many UHP students travel (program-funded) to present research at regional and national honors conferences. Many take an active role in the governance of the honors program itself including the selection processes by which students are admitted and seminars are chosen. Many contribute to and help design student-run creative arts and research journals (Sanctuary; Inquiro). Many study or engage in service activities abroad for weeks, months, even a year at a time. And an impressive number of UHP students have been awarded Rhodes, Truman, Goldwater, Fulbright, and other national scholarships.
The University Honors program offers about 18-20 different honors seminars each year. Some are cross-listed in other departments and so are open to all students at UAB. These seminars are offered during the fall semester, spring semester, and summer term and are limited to 16 students. Honors seminars are available in a variety of different fields and focus on issues that are of major interest within the field and also have implications and applications beyond it. Examples of honors seminars which have been taught are "Ethnographic Filmmaking," " China's Next Phase," "Cognitive Brain Imaging," "Philosophy, Psychology, and the Economics of Happiness," "Existentialism and Modern Literature."

Since this article first appeared in ASCAP's Playback magazine, ASCAP, working with the other major PRO, has launched RapidCue. RapidCue is a web-based application that allows production companies to submit cue sheets in a digital format. For more information on RapidCue, click here. If your music is used in a film or television program, filing a cue sheet with ASCAP is an important step in getting paid for your work. Here's everything you need to know about doing it right, and the most frequently asked questions about cue sheets. As you may know, ASCAP licenses television stations and others the right to broadcast the music contained in their programming. ASCAP collects the license fees from networks, cable, PBS and local stations and distributes royalties to the composer and publisher members based on these performances. In order to determine what music has been performed and which members to pay for these performances, "cue sheets" are required that list all the music contained in any particular program. These cue sheets are then matched to broadcast schedules and performances are processed so that members can receive royalties from the use of their music. If your music is used in a film or television program, it is imperative that a cue sheet is filed with ASCAP so that you can be paid for your work. Typically, the production company is responsible for doing this. ASCAP has very solid relationships with the major and larger independent production companies and the flow of cue sheets to ASCAP has been steady and reliable since the early days of film and television. Currently, ASCAP receives tens of thousands of cue sheets every year. The creation of cue sheets often stems from the composer or music editor's spotting notes or edit decision list (EDL). If a music supervisor is on the project, they can sometimes be responsible for collecting information on the music used as well. A rough draft of a cue sheet is then sent to the music department at the production company for verification of accuracy and the inclusion of additional information, such as the proper copyright information for licensed music or other publishing-related information. The production company then distributes the finished cue sheet to all interested parties, such as publishers, composers, attorneys and performing rights organizations like ASCAP. Due to the rapidly changing landscape of television and film production, there are a growing number of independent production companies that may not be aware of the importance of filing a music cue sheet. It has become increasingly important for composers, publishers and other music professionals to educate the production companies with which they work about what a cue sheet is. In recognition of this, ASCAP has created a new area on our website offering a "Cue Sheet FAQ" and downloadable samples for people not familiar with cue sheets. For major production companies, ASCAP introduced EZQ in 1995, a PC based application, that allowed the easy creation and management of cue sheets and the ability to digitally submit the cue sheets directly to ASCAP's database for processing. Tens of thousands of cue sheets have been submitted through EZQ since that time. Look for future announcements of new technology in this area. If your music is used in a film or television program, it is imperative that a cue sheet is filed with ASCAP so that you can be paid for your work.
