Hisham Abbas has fans around the world Working with a singer like Hameed Al Sha'eri could prove to be a lucky step on the road to fame. That's exactly what happened to Hisham Abbas in his early days as a budding singer. Now he is one of Egypt's top young singers with a growing number of fans throughout the Arab world, India and Asia. Hisham graduated from the American University in Cairo and he always proudly mentions Shobra, where he grew up. Before launching his music career, Hisham worked with his friend Hameed Al Sha'eri and Mostafa Qamar, another top Egyptian singer, as a sound engineer. During this time he was attracted to the glamourous world of music. He made a crucial decision, believing he had the talent and the voice. Hisham launched his career with Amricana Show featuring himself and two girls – Alya and Marline. He began by singing in TV advertisements until the band hit it big with Allah Yesallem Halak. He again hit the charts with Wana a'amel eh, which was followed by a series of hits including Habibi Dah and Habibi Feeno. He married fitness trainer Jihan, whom he met when he went to a gym and asked for private instruction. When he was rebuffed, he demanded to meet the fitness trainer, Jihan. She said, "Are you expecting me to give you private sessions just because you are a celebrity?" Then she walked away. From then on he could not get her out of his mind. He was determined to marry her. Even the wedding was unusual because it was held in the morning on the beach and lasted until the evening when it relocated to to the hotel. "I always like the unusual, and I decide to make everything in my life unusual," Hisham once said. His hit song Habibi dah or Nari nari as it is more popularly known, has lyrics in Hindi. He said he loved working in India because he found that Indians are hard-working, especially in the media. "I have always loved music and singing no matter what culture it is. I used to sing in Hindi, French and Turkish during my childhood without understanding the lyrics," he said. Hisham regards India as an ancient fountainhead of the arts. "I love and respect Indian culture. I sang in Hindi because I knew that there was a big audience in India. The song Habibi Dah became a superhit and I was named Artist of the Month by MTV in the summer of 2001," he said. This encouraged Hisham to stage three concerts in India and to sing in other languages. "I'm planning to work internationally, and I always change. I believe that Arabic music can be changed," he said. Hisham loves acting. He enjoyed imitating Abdulhaleem Hafiz in his childhood, and now he is writing a script in which he will be part of the cast.
